PURPOSE:To obtain pure IgM, useful as a remedy for bacterial infection, and capable of being an intravenous injection pharmaceutical, by fractionating a blood plasma fraction consisting essentially of IgM with polyethylene glycol (PEG) under weakly alkaline conditions, and separating kallikrein which is a factor for side effects. CONSTITUTION:A blood plasma fraction consisting essentially of IgM is fractionated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) under weakly alkaline conditions, preferably 7.5<pH<8.5. The reaction temperature is preferably 0-10 deg.C. A kallikrein- like active substance is contained in the resultant supernatant of the white deposited precipitates. The white precipitates are then redissolved to afford the aimed pure IgM. In the intravenous injection of the IgM pharmaceutical, the kallikrein- like active substance causing side effects, e.g. hypotension, can be separated, and the pure IgM fraction considered to be more desirable than the IgM for treating microbism can be obtained.
