PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition containing a benzylamide derivative of a specific phenoxyalkanoic acid and dymron as active components, exhibiting excellent synergistic herbicidal effect against a wide variety of weeds compared with the separate use of the components, and having high selectivity, i.e. free from phytotoxicity to paddy rice plant, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective herbicide contains, as active components , (A) a benzylamide derivative of a phenoxyalkanoic acid of formula (X is CH3 or H; Y is halogen or H; Z is CH3, halogen or CF3; R is CH3, OCH3 or Y) which is a novel compound having herbicidal activity and (B) dymron [1-(alpha,alpha-dimethylbenzyl)-3-(4-methylphenyl)urea] which is a known component of herbicide. The amount of dymron is 0.1-5pts.wt. per 1pt.wt. of the compound of formula. The present composition can be applied to the paddy rice field before or after the transplantation of the rice plant, before or after sowing of the rice plant in the direct sowing cultivation, or to the field of the sprouting or young rice plant, without affecting the growth of the paddy rice plant. It is free of toxicity to man and animal, ill odor, etc.
