PURPOSE:To permit automatic control so that a ship advance direction may be set to a direction deviated by a predetermined angle from a wave direction or a wind direction, by providing a steering control system where either of a set direction signal of a ship advance direction or a relative wind direction reference signal is selectively outputted to a subtracter and a rudder angle is controlled such that a deviation signal from the subtracter is decreased. CONSTITUTION:A real wind direction operating unit 14 receives a wind direction signal, wind speed signal, ship advance direction signal and ship speed signal through wirings 11, 12, 13 and 2, respectively, to provide a real wind direction signal. The real wind direction signal is fed through wiring 15 to an adder 17. A relative wind direction bias setting unit 16 functions to correct azimuth in such a maner that in what direction a ship 10 is to be advanced relative to a wind direction. An output signal of the unit 16 is added by the adder 17 to obtain a ship advance direction on the basis of the wind direction. A mode selecting switch 19 functions to select whether the advance direction is to be controlled by an advance direction setting unit 3, or it is to be controlled by the advance direction signal as set on the basis of the relative wind direction.
