PURPOSE:A vulcanizable rubber composition improved in compression permanent set, low-temperature resistance, and mechanical strength at high temperatures, comprising a copolymer rubber containing unsaturated nitrile-derived units, conjugated diene-derived units, and specified units, and an organic peroxide vulcanizing system. CONSTITUTION:A rubber composition comprising (i) a copolymer rubber containing 20-60wt% unsaturated nitrile-derived units (1), 15-10wt% conjugated diene- derived units (2), and 78.5-30wt% units (3) formed by hydrogenating units derived from a copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer other than the unsaturated nitrile and/or units derived from a conjugated diene and (ii) an organic peroxide vulcanizing system. Examples of the copolymer rubbers include a rubber obtained by partially hydrogenating the conjugated diene units of an unsaturated nitrile/conjugated diene copolymer rubber, a copolymer rubber containing an unsaturated nitrile, a conjugated diene and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable therewith, and a rubber obtained by partially hydrogenating the conjugated diene units of this copolymer rubber.
