PURPOSE:To prevent electrodeposition of zinc and liquid short and increase energy efficiency by forming an insulating film layer on the inner side of a zinc electrode plate which is in contact with electrolyte in a zinc-halogen cell constructed by arranging a large number of bipolar electrodes in series. CONSTITUTION:A bipolar electrode 1 is constructed by using hard graphite as a zinc electrode plate 2, porous graphite as a chlorine electrode plate 3, and hard graphite, porous graphite, or platinum plated titanium as a current collector 4. The electrode body 1 is fixed by a cell frame 10 comprising plastic such as vinyl chloride to form an electrolyte supply chamber. The inner side of the zinc electrode plate of the bipolar electrode 1 is coated with acrylic resin paint mainly comprising methacrylate ester to form a coated film layer 13. This insulating material prevents electrodeposition of zinc on the back side of zinc electrode plate and also prevents electrolyte leakage to between electrodes from the bipolar electrode through the zinc electrode plate. |
