PURPOSE:To obtain concentrates of uniform density regardless of the SS concentrations of liquid supplied by dewatering the liquid by turning a vacuum drum wound with a filter cloth consisting of two porous filter clothes having different meshes. CONSTITUTION:A proper amount of a diatomaceous earth aqueous solution is charged from a supply tube 13 into the recession 1 of the bottom 2 and filtered through the boundary of a filter cloth 10 consisting of two filter clothes 8 and 9 under vacuum condition, where a kind of filter A composed of diatomaceous earth particles (alpha) is formed. Excessive diatomaceous earth aqueous solution C is then drawn out through a discharge port 3 and a filter aid drawing tube 14. A liquid D containing solid substances is then introduced through the supply tube 13 into the filtering chamber 5 and filtered under vacuum condition. The filtrate containing superfine particles, passing through the filter cloth 10, is sucked into the vacuum drum 7 through through holes provided in the surface of the vacuum drum 7, and solid particles not passing through the filter cloth 10 are raked by a brush 12 are redispersed into the liquid D to form the concentrate E of the liquid D containing solid substances in the chamber 5.
