The present improvement relates to new forms of theophylline having prolonged action. Theophylline, in the free or salt form, is combined with a compound corresponding to the general formula <IMAGE> in which R is hydrogen, a halogen or an acetyl radical; R1 is hydrogen or a methyl radical; R2 represents a group of formula <IMAGE> in which R3 is hydrogen - except when R and R1 are hydrogen - or a methyl radical; R1 and R2 can also form, with the adjacent nitrogen atom, a 2,2-dimethyl-3-oxazolidinyl group. The medicinal compositions can be used in the treatment of asthma with maintenance of a stable and prolonged theophylline blood level after one dose. <IMAGE>
