A video magnetic tape cassette has an improved braking device, which is designed in the form of a sliding piece and prevents the reels of tape turning when the cassette is not in use. A displaceable braking part, on the front end of which a pair of flexible catches protrudes, is arranged between two guiding parts, which are formed in one piece with the cassette housing and extend along mutually opposite sides of an opening in the cassette housing intended for insertion of a key bar. The guiding parts have in each case an inverted L-shaped profile. In one embodiment, the braking part has an elevation which extends in the longitudinal direction and is guided displaceably between the two guiding parts.
