The chopping machine, shown in cutout form and diagrammatically, has a chopping device 1 which is equipped with a rotating chopping drum 3 and which is followed by a further comminuting and ejecting device for the chopped crop. This additional comminuting and ejecting device has a disc 8 which is mounted on the discharge line 7 and is driven to rotate in the direction of the arrow C and which extends with its active part into the discharge line 7 centrally in relation to the longitudinal axis of the latter. Pressure rollers 9, 9' are assigned to the two plane sides of this active part of the disc 8, in such a way that a throughflow gap a, a' for the stream of chopped material flowing off in the discharge line 7 is formed on each of the two sides of the disc 8 between the disc 8 and the respective pressure roller 9 and 9'. The pressure rollers 9, 9' are driven in such a way that, in their region facing the disc 8, they rotate in the same direction as the disc 8. The throughflow gap a, a' for the stream of chopped material is kept smaller than the diameter of a maize grain, this guaranteeing that each maize grain is split open for the subsequent maize silage. The pressure rollers 9, 9' can pivot away from the plane sides of the disc 8 counter to a spring force. They are mounted on levers 20, 20' in such a manner that they can be pivoted out of the discharge line 7 and fixed in order to assume an inactive position. <IMAGE>
