A paper shredder has a cutter system with two counter-rotating driven shafts, the knife discs of which intermesh. The knife discs are arrayed on both shafts alternately with spacer rings with little axial movement. The cutter system has optimum cutting performance and can be produced cost-effectively, since manufacturing tolerances are automatically compensated.
