For covering devices of the slideways of machine tools which comprise sheet-steel boxes which slide telescopically one into another, the patent application P 3206461.6 describes locking devices between the boxes, which act in such a manner that a relative displacement can only ever take place between two adjacent boxes - pushing in or pulling out - while all the other boxes are in each case locked to the adjacent box in a completely pushed-in or completely pulled-out relative position until they are unlocked by the adjacent box, which can just be displaced relatively, at the end of its displacement travel. In this connection, a locking device is composed of a latching curve and a latching roller, in which the latching roller is prevented from evading the latching curve by a blocking member until the latter is moved out of its blocking position with respect to the latching roller by the relatively displaceable, adjacent box when the latter is completely pulled out or completely pushed in. The present invention further develops the locking device in such a manner that the same pair comprising latching curve and latching roller can lock two adjacent boxes both in their completely pushed-in and in their completely pulled-out relative position to one another, different blocking members acting on the latching roller in the two relative positions.
