In a process for producing a three-dimensionally structured film web from a thermoplastic polymer, the polymer is extruded through a sheet die to form an initially smooth film web, and this smooth film web, while it still has a temperature in the vicinity of the melting temperature of the polymer, is deposited on a moved receiving element disposed substantially vertically below the sheet die, which receiving element has a three-dimensionally structured surface, where the polymer contacts the three-dimensionally structured surface of the receiving element in a manner such that it is deformed. In this manner three-dimensionally structured elements with increased compressive strength can be produced in a more simple manner than in the state of the art. They can be used as spacers or, laminated to a spin-bonded fabric, as vertical drainage elements, for example on building walls in contact with soil.
