396,718. Water-gas generation. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges. ; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) Feb. 8, 1932, No. 3692. [Class 55 (i).] In the generation of water gas from granular fuel, during the "blow," air is supplied below the grate A at such a speed that the fuel is well mixed without exhibiting a boiling movement, and simultaneously through a pipe F against the surface of the coke bed ; a part of the fuel is thereby burned with almost exclusive formation of carbon dioxide. During the "run," steam is supplied through the grate and pipe F, and coke is pressed into the charge by a conveyer worm C. A heat accumulator G serves, to crack vapours resulting from the use of bituminous fuel. The air blast may be enriched with oxygen.
