PURPOSE:To decrease the oil consumption and prevent the valve from seizure by a method wherein the stem sealing tension of a valve guide is adjusted on the basis of an engine operation condition inspite of the changing of an intake pressure. CONSTITUTION:A lip part 6a of a stem seal 6 is provided on a valve guide 5, an expander ring 7 is arranged to give the tension to the lip part. A relief valve 12 is controlled on the basis of an engine operation condition such as a number of revolution, a load, an intake pressure and the like, the oil pressure of the expander ring 7 is controlled with the relief valve. Thereby, the tension of the seal 6 is controlled, the amount of oil adhered on the stem 3a is controlled at the optimum level, accordingly, the valve seizure is prevented and the oil consumption is controlled at the minimum level. |
