The anti-skid chain for vehicle wheels has on the inside of the tyre a holding ring (1) made of spring steel wire with an outwardly directed spring tension, which holding ring (1) is open at one point and is closed at its two ends by a hook connection consisting of in each case one bent-over hook and eye component (6, 7). Incorrect hooking of the hook component (6) on the eye component (7) is avoided in a constructionally particularly simple manner in such a way that the eye component (7) has an end leg (8) which is directed obliquely with respect to the holding ring (1). The eye component (7) at the end of the holding ring (1) can be bent over either approximately parallel to the edge (9) of the tyre or outwardly therefrom, the hook component (6) lying opposite being bent over correspondingly in each case for engagement without the closure protruding upwards particularly with respect to the edge (9) of the tyre. In addition, in a preferred embodiment the eye component (7) is bent over radially outwards with respect to the mouth of the hook component (6) in such a way that the two closed ends (1, 1b) of the holding ring (1) which are connected to one another are opposite one another approximately in the circumferential line of the holding ring (1) - that is to say essentially without radial offset. <IMAGE>
