Chain-tensioning, spring and damping devices for track-laying vehicles whose tracks run over running rollers which are mounted on the running gear frame, a non-driven guide wheel which can be displaced on the running gear frame and a chain drive wheel which is seated on the final drive shaft are to be designed in such a way that the individual elements are inexpensive to produce, are easily accessible and easy to change and permit simple adjustment of the chain tension, of the spring effect and of the damping, avoid sudden springing back and ensure reliable operation over a long period. This is achieved here in that the guide wheel is supported on a chain tensioning device which is provided on the running gear frame, consists of a cylinder/piston unit filled with a non-compressible fluid and a spring and damping device is mounted in series with the tensioning device on the running gear frame, which spring and damping device is formed from a cylinder which is filled with a compressible mass and from a piston which dips into the compressible mass and that, in addition, a device for adjusting pretensioning force and damping and a device for adjusting the spring path of the piston are provided.
