The invention relates to a safety ski binding, having a guide plate which is displaceable on a guide rail and is supported on thrust springs which are supported fixedly on the ski at the other end. The guide plate bears a pivot pin as a vertical axis, about which a pivot plate, carrying a bearing block, can be swung out horizontally, this optionally occurring only after predetermined vertical release forces have been overcome. Pivotably mounted on the bearing block is a sole holder which has a control surface with a locking surface extending at an angle to the upper side of the ski and determining the range of elasticity, and on which a pivotable, spring-loaded lever is supported. The intention is to design a safety ski binding of this type in a more compact manner than the known safety ski bindings, but ensuring, as in the known safety ski binding, optimum release characteristics even in the event of a diagonal release. This is achieved in that the lever is pivotably mounted on a bearing plate which, together with the bearing block, can be swung out in a horizontal plane about the vertical axis and, during this outward pivoting movement, is displaceable in a limited manner towards the ski end, relatively to the pivot plate, by means of a control bolt guided along a control path of the pivot plate.
