A hand-held labeler has a thermographic print head (26) for printing on labels (L) releasably secured to a carrier web (W), a delaminator (28) for delaminating printed labels, an applicator (39) for applying printed labels, a web feeding mechanism including an electric motor and speed reducer mounted partly within a feed wheel (29) supported by three ball bearings (83) for advancing the carrier web, a detachable handle (22) containing a source of electrical energy, and circuitry including a plurality of printed circuit boards electrically connecting the electrical energy source, a keyboard (20) and the print head (26). In the event of an impact to the housing 21, the circuit boards are protected from direct shocks from the housing and the handle (22) can break away from the housing, the connections to the battery being broken only in the event of complete separation of the handle (22) from the housing (21). <IMAGE> |
