PURPOSE:To decide the position of the symmetric center of picture and to attain an automatic collation of a seal by using a means to store a part of a picture having a contour symmetrical with rotation and a means do detect the coordinate value at a circumscribed point between two pairs of straight lines which are parallel to the coordinate axis of said picture and a pair of straight lines which are oblique to the coordinate axis. CONSTITUTION:A picture input device 40 reads the seal data which are symmetrical with rotation and stores it to a file device 30. This read seal data is added to a microprocessor 10 and processed by the program stored in a main memory 20. In this case, two pairs of straight lines which are parallel to the coordinate axis (x) and (y) of a picture are obtained together with at least a pair of straight lines which are oblique to the axes (x) and (y). Then the coordinate value is calculated at the circumscribed point between said two pairs of straight lines and a pair of straight lines. The position of the symmetrical center of the picture is decided based on the calculated coordinate value and displayed to a picture display device 60. Thus an automatic seal collating device is obtained.
