The electromagnet consists of a plurality of individual electromagnets (1) which are in each case constructed as a structural unit and which surround the coil (2) and at least parts (3, 4) of the magnetic flux. A plurality of these structural units are placed on one another, corresponding to the desired maximum stroke of the armature (9). <IMAGE>
