PURPOSE:To obtain high-quality milled mineral fiber suitable as a substitute for asbestos, by restricting the amount of annealing oil attached to the mineral fiber in the spray-spinning of molten mineral to form fibers, and milling the obtained mineral fibers. CONSTITUTION:Raw minerals such as blast furnace slag, basalt, etc. are melted with an electrical furnace, etc., and sprayed in the form of fiber using compressed gas such as air or by centrifugal force. In the above process, the amount of the annealing oil (e.g. machine oil) attached to the mineral fiber is restricted to <=0.1%. The obtained mineral fiber M is fed with the feeder 2 to the crusher 3, milled in the form of fine short fibers, and dropped into the hopper 4. The milled mineral fibers M' in the hopper 4 is transferred by the conveyor 5 to the air classifier 6 and classified to obtain the product FF having a specific aspect ratio.
