PURPOSE:To form a colored film having a uniform color tone on Al or an Al alloy in an electrolytic coloring stage by carrying out special voltage regulation in a stage for anodically oxidizing the metal before electrolytic coloring. CONSTITUTION:When electrolysis is finished in each electrolytic cell in a stage for anodically oxidizing Al or an Al alloy, the final electrolytic voltage is dropped to 13-16V for a prescribed time. The metal is then washed, and it is electrolytically colored in an aqueous soln. contg. a metallic salt. Said voltage regulating time is about 30-300sec.
