PURPOSE:The titled covering material having improved adhesivity to primarily coated layer, consisting of a compound containing a perfluoroalkyl group and a (meth)acrylic group in the molecule and an acrylic oligomer and monomer. CONSTITUTION:A perfluoroalkyl group-containing epoxide shown by the formula I (n is 2-30) is reacted with (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of a basic catalyst, to give a compound (A) shown by the formula II containing a perfluoroalkyl group and (meth)acrylic group in the melecule. 100pts.wt. mixture of 1- 30wt% component A and (B) 99-70wt% acrylic oligomer having 100-50,000 average molecular weight or acrylic monomer [e.g., ethylene glycol di(meth) acrylate] is blended with 0.1-10pts.wt. photopolymerization initiator (e.g., benzophenone) to give a covering material for optical fiber. The covering material is applied to the surface of optical fiber which is primarily coated, and is irradiated with radiation and cured.
