Mechanism for removing the tails (23) of bulbs (24) and similar crops is arranged over the transport surface (9) of a sorting machine. It comprises a downwardly open housing (1) with a horizontal grid (2; 16, 17) with parallel bars (16) at its lower end, a rotary cutter blade (13) arranged immediately above the grid and an air extract unit which is connected to the housing and uprights the bulbs with their tails projecting through the grid so that they are cut-off by the blade. The grid is pref. interchangeable to handle different bulb types and the housing may be vertically adjustable to accommodate different bulb sizes.
