PURPOSE:To prevent the variation, fluctuation, etc., of optical output as well as to enable to easily perform the control of the optical output by a method wherein discharge operation is made to perform in the interior of a laser tube by a power source different from that of a main discharge path by furthermore using a hollow cathode containing the desired metal as an electrode on one side in addition to that of the main discharge path. CONSTITUTION:Discharge generates in between an anode 6 and a cathode 8, passing through a main discharge path through a fine quartz tube 5, while discharge generates in between electrodes 11 and 12, passing through a subdischarge path intersecting at right angles with the above-mentioned main discharge path. A current regulator 17 is controlled by the difference between the output of a laser beam detector 19 and that of a reference signal source 20. Accordingly, if a control polarity has been selected in such a condition that; when the laser beam output increases, the subdischarge current drops, while, conversely, when the laser beam output drops, the subdischarge current increases; the output of the detector 19 is automatically adjusted so as to become equivalent to that of the reference signal source 20 at all times, because the sputtering amount of a cadmium atom increases and decreases according to this subdischarge current, resulting in enabling to obtain a stabilized laser beam output having no fluctuation. |
