PURPOSE:To prepare an antiphlogistic agent having strong antiphlogistic activity and almost free from glycyrrhizin which causes side effects, by the specific extraction treatment of licorice, including solvent partitioning. CONSTITUTION:Licorice is extracted with a nonpolar solvent (e.g. n-hexane), and the residue is extracted with a hydrophilic lower alcohol (e.g. ethanol). The solvent is distilled out from the extract to obtain crude extract, which is subjected to partitioning with water and/or a hydrophilic solvent and a hydrophobic solvent (e.g. water and n-butanol). The solvent is distilled out from the layer of water and/or the hydrophilic solvent, and the objective antiphlogistic agent is obtained as light yellowish brown powder or solid. The partitioning is carried out by adding both solvents to the extract followed by agitation, dissolving, and leaving at rest. |
