The fruit machine has three rotating drums (2) carrying symbols around the periphery and having an equal number of ratchet positions. Once set in motion the drums are brought naturally to rest in a cycle initiated by a random signal generator (3) consisting of a register (4) with logic. The multidigit output of the random signal generator is fed to a decoder (10) that provides stop position locations for the drives (13) of the drum drives. The output of the random signal generator register is also coupled to logic (15) that identifies a winning combination.
