NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (X is halogen or alkoxy; R<1> is lower alkyl; a is 0-2; n is 2 or 3). EXAMPLE:3,9-Bis(2-trichlorosilylethyl)-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5,5]-und ecane. USE:A water-repellent and a coating agent for plastic lens, etc. PREPARATION:The objective compound can be prepared by reacting 3,9-divinyl (or diallyl)-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5,5]undecane of formula II (R is -CH=CH2 or -CH2-CH=CH2) with the silane compound of formula III (e.g. trihalogenosilane) in the presence of a catalyst such as chloroplatinic acid, etc. usually in a solvent such as hexane.
