PURPOSE:To improve the program searching accuracy by driving a tape at approximately fixed speed for a short period of time before a normal of fast feeding reproduction mode after the tape drive is stopped and continuing the tape drive at a fixed speed until the tape is shifted by an amount equal to the number of the integration pulses. CONSTITUTION:The index signal of a video tape 45 is detected by a detecting head 46 while the tape is fast-fed or resound in an index mode (program searching mode). Then the index pulses obtained from an amplifier 47 and a waveform shaping circuit 48 are supplied to a system control microcomputer 49. Thus a stop instruction is immediately delivered to a reel motor driving circuit 54 from a control circuit 49. Then a reel driving disk is damped mechanically or electrically in response to the drive of the reel motor. When the drive of the motor is stopped completely, a drive instruction is delivered to a driving circuit 50 form the circuit 49. Then the tape 45 is loaded by a motor 51. When the loading of the tape is through, a drive instruction is delivered to a drive circuit 52 from the circuit 49. Then a capstan motor 53 is revolved at a fixed speed for review, queuing, etc.
