In an alignment compass, there is a scale (1<1>') and an index (8<1>), which can move relative to each other. The lens (5<1>) is placed at a viewing opening (6<1>). The alignment compass includes a ray path determination device (11), which directs the rays from the relevant section of the scale and from the index towards the said lens mechanism. The said ray path determination device has a semi-transparent surface (11a), via which the ray (9<11>) from the index (8<11>) or the said scale section (1a<1>) passes, to be combined in the said surface (11a), with the ray (10<11>) from respectively, the scale section or the index.
