PURPOSE:To prepare hemin useful as a preparation raw material of antitumor agent, etc., in high yield and purity, by extracting fresh blood or blood powder with an organic solvent containing a basic substance, and treating the extracted material with a halide. CONSTITUTION:Fresh blood or blood powder is extracted with an organic solvent (e.g. lower alcohol) containing a basic substance (e.g. ammonia), and the obtained extract is treated with a halide (e.g. sodium halide) to obtain a halogenated hemin (hereinafter abbreviated as hemin). Hemin is a halogenated product of hem, which is an iron complex of protoporphyrin and forms a molecular compound with protein globin to constitute hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is decomposed into hem and globin by the above organic solvent treatment, and at the same time, hem is dissolved inthe solvent. Accordingly, the globin precipitated as a solid can be separated easily, and the hem fraction can be extracted completely. |
