The sending and receiving station for a single-pipe pneumatic mail installation has, at equal distances apart, an input position (3), a transfer position (4) and a removal position (5). The transfer position (4) is connected to the forwarding tube (6). A carriage with two storage pipes (20, 21) is displaceable transversely to the longitudinal axis, the storage pipes alternately constituting the input position and transfer position or the transfer position and the output position. Assigned to the output position is a lifting apparatus (30) by means of which incoming pneumatic post canisters can be lifted out upwards to beyond a pawl (31), from where the canisters can be removed by hand. <IMAGE>
