PURPOSE:To set up an interval between lines while checking the interval by a display device by forming an area storing line interval information in a storage device, specifying a specific position in a document by a cursor and calculating the storage position of the line interval information from the position. CONSTITUTION:A main storage device 13 stores each character information and inter-line interval information corresponding to respective lines constituting a document. Cursor keys 41-44 on a keyboard are depressed to specify a specific position in the document, an inter-line interval is set up in the specific position by a format key 45, the inter-line interval is selected by a succeeding proposal key 46, and then a selection/execution key 47 is depressed. Consequently, a CPU11 calculates the storage position of the inter-line interval information from the cursor position and the inter-line interval information is written in the calculated position of the device 13. Then, the CPU11 writes blank dot data and the inter-line interval corresponding to the inter-line interval information in a video RAM171 after writing character pattern data corresponding to character codes for one line read out from the device 13. Consequently, a display control device 17 displays a document with a required inter-line interval on a CRT16.
