PURPOSE:To make a car drivable at a cruising speed without trying to obtain excessive power capacity or making power run short in time of being really needed, by detecting the running resistance of a car during its driving with a sensor, and warning and indicating those of optimum engine load and speed to this detected sensitiveness. CONSTITUTION:When an engine 12 rotates and a car starts its running, a running resistance detector 2 inputs the detected results of each sensor into a CPU (central processing unit) 4. And, on the bais of the running resistance that totals differences between the calculated value of each resistance of car's rolling, grade, air and acceleration and the true value, the CPU4 determines the range of optimum engine load and speed, and reads out one of maps commensurate to four types of the running resistance stored in a ROM (read-only memory) 3, comparing it with the existing state, and displays the results on a display unit 5. That is to say, if it is within a cruising running range of the map, a green lamp 21 is lighted but if it is out of the range, an orange lamp 22 is lighted. Therefore, when the lamp 21 is lighted, car driving continues to go on but if the lamp 22 is lighted, control changes such as stepping on an accelerator and shifting gears up, etc., are carried out so as to cause the lamp 21 to be lighted.
