<p>Organic chloro-thiophosphates of the general formula <FORM:0653603/IV (b)/1> in which R1 and R2 are alkyl, haloalkyl, aralkyl, haloaralkyl aryl or haloaryl radicals are prepared by reacting a bis(thiophosphous) sulphide of the general formula <FORM:0653603/IV (b)/2> in which R1 and R2 have the above meaning and n is 2, 3 or 4 which may be obtained by process of U.S.A. Specification 1,949,629 with a chlorinating agent selected from chlorine, sulphur monochloride and sulphur dichloride. Examples of the radicals R1, R2 which may be alike or unlike, are methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, isobutyl, sec.-amyl, n-hexyl, 2-ethylhexyl, n-octyl, n-decyl, n-dodecyl, oleyl, cetyl, ceryl, allyl, bromomethyl, 2-chlorethyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl, phenyl and 4-chlorophenyl. The reaction may be carried out in organic solvents, e.g. carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, benzene, toluene, xylene, chlorobenzene, tetrachlorethane, methylene chloride, or ethylene chloride. In examples: 0,0-diethyl-chlorothiophosphate is prepared by reacting (1) bis-(0,0-diethyl thiophosphono trisulphide and chlorine; (2) bis-(0,0-diethyl thiophosphono), disulphide and chlorine; (3) bis-(0,0-diethyl thiophosphono) tetrasulphide and sulphur dichloride; (4) bis-(0,0-diethyl thiophosphono), disulphide and sulphur mono-chloride. The products are useful as intermediates for the preparation of insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides, flotation agents, petroleum additives, corrosion inhibitors, plasticizers, and flame retardants. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, n in the above formula may be any whole number. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
