A mobile equipment 950 positions a flexible carrier in the alignment of the successive banks of tubes of the steam generator SG, and moves it between these banks. It 950 is introduced into the annular space of the SG. It supports a flexible carrier 910 having at its end a measuring probe 930 which will be introduced and moved between the tubes 903. This equipment comprises a carrier trolley, a module 951 driving the flexible carrier via the geared motor 952, a module 954 supporting a guiding device 925, a module 955 for directing the carrier using the play of the motor 959. The flexible carrier consists of one or a number of high-strength steel tapes. This mechanical equipment makes it possible to gain access everywhere above the tube plate, near each tube of the SG, for maintenance or inspection. <IMAGE>
