A sports shoes sole has a heel wedge(2) made of flexible material. At least one cavity(6) extends through the width and runs parallel to the tread side of the sole. The cavity is exposed only from the side edge(3,4) and is positioned on the surface adjacent to the heel. A resilient elongated support(7) can be inserted into the cavity to give the effective sole flexibility, and has a flat head (8) at one end and a number of annular collars (12) at the other.
