The safety switch (2) consists essentially of a switch housing (3) and an operating device (4). A sleeve (5), which is secured by means of blocking balls (10), is arranged in the switch housing (3) such that it can be displaced longitudinally. Located in the sleeve (5) is a bolt (12) having an annular groove (14) which can be pushed so far into the sleeve (5) by means of the plunger (19) of the operating device (4) that the annular groove (14) is located in the region of the blocking balls (10). In this position, a bead edge (22) of a clamping sleeve (20) which surrounds the plunger (19) concentrically snaps into an undercut (17) in the sleeve (5), in a positively-locking manner. By means of further axial pressure on the sleeve (5), the blocking balls (10) can now turn aside into the region of the annular groove (14) of the bolt (12), so that the sleeve (5) can be displaced axially. The front end of the clamping sleeve (20) is in this case displaced into the bearing hole (6) within which the sleeve (5) is guided. It is not possible to separate the operating device (4) from the switch housing (3) again until the sleeve (5) has been drawn so far out of the switch housing (3) that its position is secured by means of the blocking balls (10). <IMAGE>
