PURPOSE:To perform highly accurately and efficiently profile-processing in in- line by melt cutting a roll into a target profile with the aid of a laser beam basing on a wearing profile of the roll measured by irradiating the laser beam onto the roll surface. CONSTITUTION:A roll profile is measured by irradiating a laser beam for detection to the surface of a roll R while moving a displacement-meter head 11 along the roll R surface. At that time, the position change of a measuring point is detected by a pulse generator 18 to store the detected results in the memory of a microcomputer 19 by making the results correspond to the measured profile. The roll R is processed basing on the stored information by moving laser-beam heads 2a, 2b for melt cutting in the direction of the roll R axis while rotating the roll R. That is, the necessary positions and quantities of melt cutting, based on the processing conditions necessary for obtaining a prescribed profile from the stored information, are obtained. The computor 19 gives instructions to a driving device 6 of the head 2 and a laser generator 7 in accordance with the positions and quantities of melt cutting mentioned above to control the feeding speed of the head 2 and the laser intensity. |
