PURPOSE:To enable to automatically eliminate the sag of a ribbon in an initial period of setting, by a method wherein an initial ribbon take-up quantity is set to be larger than the distance through which a carriage is moved when being returned after printing is started. CONSTITUTION:When a printing-starting switch is turned ON, an initial position detecting part detects the position of the carriage E, and when the carriage E is located at the initial position, a driving circuit is operated to once move the carriage E rightward. In this case, the next decision by the detecting part is negation, and a signal is fed to the driving circuit and a driving circuit for taking up the ribbon. While again returning the carriage E to the initial position, a motor 37 for a ribbon-feeding mechanism I is driven by a preset number of steps to take up the set ribbon by an amount corresponding to the initial sag. Then, the carriage E is moved from the initial position to a printing-starting position. The next decision by the detecting part is negation also when the carriage E is not located at the initial position. In this case, the motor 37 is driven while returning the carriage E to the initial position, thereby taking up the ribbon by an amount corresponding to the initial sag, and the carriage E is moved to the printing-starting position. |
