The invention relates to a method of controlling the supply of ink and damping medium to inking and damping units of lithoprinting machines, in particular sheet-fed and web-fed offset printing machines. The technical object of the invention consists in designing the method in such a way that the expenditure for measuring means is reduced, the manual activities are reduced, and the operation of lithoprinting machines is simplified. The object is achieved in that the measured values for determining the ink density and the damping are taken at the same control marks, signals are provided which serve for evaluating the damping and ink density parameters, the present damping and ink density values are then calculated and compared by a microcomputer with predetermined reference values within stipulated tolerance limits, furthermore in that separate control signals for controlling the inking and damping unit are produced by forming difference signals between reference and actual values.
