The innovation relates to a cigarette-sleeve filling unit which is to be actuated via a crank, lever or electric drive and in which, in contrast to the prior-art embodiments, the tobacco no longer has to be manually introduced into the unit, as has been the case hitherto, but, by dipping the unit, in accordance with the innovation, into the tobacco bag or similar container, the tobacco is introduced automatically into the unit via conveying wheels or conveying belts or a vertically driven worm. The empty cigarette sleeve pushed vertically into the unit from above, in accordance with the innovation, is fixed on its receiving sleeve by two mutually opposite clamping jaws, which can be individually adjusted to define the filling density, are under spring pressure, are arranged such that they can move horizontally and can be moved apart by the push of a button. The packing takes place after the automatic supply of the tobacco, as described above, by a packing bolt, which moves up and down in the vertical direction, until the desired filling density of the cigarette sleeve is achieved, whereupon the finished cigarette is ejected upwards out of the unit.
