The depositing compartment serves to stack documents (B) conveyed in the vertical position. It contains a stacking spring (SF), which presses the incoming document (B) laterally away from the inlet passage (EK), and a stacking arm (ST) which presses the document stack against a compartment wall (FW1). The lower region of the compartment wall (FW1) serves as document-stacking surface (BF) and is inclined obliquely inwards.
