Road condition detection device - uses retractable pilot wheel with braking system pulsed by electronic controller

The detector can be deployed from, and retracted into, the underside of the vehicle upon which it is carried. It carries a spring-loaded, linkage-mounted pivoting lever which can be raised against the force of a spring by rod, cable etc. and fixed. The free end of the lever carries a pilot wheel (30) which presses on the rod (10) when deployed and has a brake. The pilot wheel brake is operated by pulses from a device controlled by an electronic controller. The actuating device can be controlled by the electronic section of an anti-skid braking system.
