A device for the three-dimensional forming of a glass plate heated to its softening temperature has straight conveying bars for conveying a flat, unformed glass plate from a roller hearth furnace into the forming region of a bending station; moulding bars which can be adapted to the desired shape are arranged in the forming region. A counter-mould corresponding to the desired curvature shape of the glass plate is arranged above these moulding bars. The straight conveying bars can be lowered between the moulding bars and extended laterally in the axial direction; after the straight transport bars are extended, a moulding ring which is located below the bending station and surrounds the moulding bars externally is pushed vertically upwards against the glass plate, whilst an upper moulding ring surrounding the upper counter-mould simultaneously serves as abutment to the moulding ring pressed against it from below; the curved glass plate is thus grasped and moved between the two moulding rings. In the continuation of the bending operation, the glass plate grasped between the two moulding rings is moved laterally out of the forming region, after the raising of the upper counter-mould and lowering of the lower moulding bars, and is introduced into a tempering zone.
