To insert a driving profile (9) into a clamping device (2) which is fastened to the underside of a pile hammer which in turn is either displaceable on a leader (13) and/or is suspended on a chain, cable or the like, a threading device is proposed which has one or more ropes (5), chains or the like which are fastened in such a way that they can be pulled upwards and which are thus guided on the pile hammer in such a way that their one end ends hanging down in the area of the insertion opening of the clamping device (2). The ropes (5), chains or the like can be pulled upwards, for example, via a winch, by connection to the piston rod of a cylinder or by fastening to a leader (13).
