The invention relates to diffusion-coated, wear-resistant components which, as shaping tools, cutting tools, guiding devices and wearing parts, are subjected to high mechanical stresses and should reach a relatively long service life. In addition to an extension of service life, a purpose of the invention is the reuse of these components. The object is to provide a boride layer which permits mechanical working of the components, both for reaching the required accuracy of shape and dimensions, and the reprocessing or regeneration of these components for the next dimensional group. According to the invention, the base body has a diffusion layer which consists of a homogeneous single-phase boride layer having a minimum layer thickness of 320 mu m.
