PURPOSE:To minimize an error rate or the probability of misidentification of an occurred event by providing a threshold value identifying the level calculated based on the distribution of a value of physical quantity observed at the receiving side in data transmission. CONSTITUTION:In transmitting a binary data taking a voltage level as a medium, a voltage observed by a voltage-alphabet converter 9 has a probability distribution corresponding to each input alphabet based on distortion and output error of an alphabet-voltage transducer 6 and noise and distortion on a transmission line 7, and when it is known that the adjacent binary values follows to the normal distribution consisting respectivey of average value L'1 and variance sigma1<2> and average value L'2 and variance sigma2<2>, a threshold value generator 10 outputs a threshold value giving the minimum error rate (sigma2L'1+sigma1L'2)/(sigma1+sigma2) to the binary value. |
