In a coupling for the releasable connection of a medical, especially dental, handpiece part (1) having a drivable tool (19) to a drive part (2), one of the parts to be coupled (e.g. 2) being provided with a sliding connection sleeve (4) insertable in an axial recess (3) of the other part (e.g. 1), which can be pushed on, the sleeve having at least one surrounding coupling ring (5) which is freely rotatable even in the coupled state, is axially secured, is resilient in the radial direction and, in the coupled state, comes to rest non-positively and in a radially resilient manner against a part-region of the inner wall (6) of the other part (e.g. 1), such that the coupled parts (1, 2) are releasable by axially pulling them apart, unintentional release of the two coupled parts (1, 2) is to be prevented and reliable attainment of the final coupling position on assembly is to be guaranteed, and for this reason the coupling ring (5) is positively connected with the other part (1) so as to be protected against unintentional release, this other part (1), which can be pushed on, being axially secured.
