The trueing gearwheel (1), of which the toothing forming the working surfaces is equipped with diamonds, serves for profiling an enveloping or enveloping-like grinding worm. Here, the toothing width (c) of the trueing gearwheel is smaller than would be necessary for profiling the grinding-worm width, but larger than the toothing width (b) of the working gearwheel to be machined by the grinding worm. The tooth profile (2) of the trueing gearwheel (1) is rounded on the end faces (4) of the trueing gearwheel (1) outside the useful width of the toothing. It is thereby possible to profile grinding worms of any width with trueing toothings (2) only a little wider than the working wheel toothing, without running the risk of destroying the diamond covering on the sensitive edges (3). <IMAGE>
